News and Coming Events (D.V.)

Evening Service

Tonight’s evening service will be held in Sleat, due to the electricity being disconnected in Kyleakin, and the Broadford hall not being available.

Pulpit Swap

Next Sunday Gordon will be doing a pulpit swap with one of the other Assembly Commissioners.   The morning service will be taken by Rev. Marcos Florit (Lochcarron Free Church).

Sunday School & Congregational BBQ

The annual Sunday School and Congregational BBQ will be held as usual in Morar on the second last Saturday before the schools break for the summer (18th June).

Sale of Work

The annual sale of work for the Church Fabric Fund will be held in Broadford village hall on either 13th August (last Saturday of the School holidays) or 3rd September.   Please consider these dates and let Gordon know which date would be preferable.

General Assembly

Please remember the General Assembly in your prayers in the coming week.   Please pray for the unity of the church through this time, and for wisdom for the commissioners making decisions.

Please also remember the Church of Scotland’s Assembly, as they debate the ordination of people in same-sex relationships.   The whole of Monday has been set aside for this debate, so we will probably know the outcome on Monday night, just as our own Assembly begins.

Joint Service

The monthly Joint Service with the Church of Scotland will be next Lord’s Day evening.   It is our turn to host this service and fellowship.

After some consideration, the Kirk Session agreed it best to move the venue for this service back to Sleat.   There had been some discomfort meeting in another group’s building, when we had adequate facilities ourselves.   The Kirk Session is however committed to keeping the congregations other services on the “mornings in Sleat, evenings in Strath” principle, and have no plans to resume other evening services in Sleat at this time.

News and Coming Events (D.V.)

Sunday School

At present, the Sunday School is meeting at the same time as the morning service in Sleat, with young people from Kilmore Church of Scotland travelling up to joint classes here and in the manse.   It is expected that we will continue to run the Sunday School this way for the foreseeable future, as we do not have the staff to run the longer program we had been running previously in Sabhal Mor.

The meeting planned for Thursday night has had to be postponed due to an unforeseen clash with another event.

Elders Prayer Meeting

All elders from the Free Church and Church of Scotland are invited to a special meeting for prayer on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm in Kyle Church of Scotland Hall.   This meeting is to pray for guidance in how both our denominations will act at our respective assemblies later in May, and to seek God’s guidance for how we can better partner in the work of the Gospel in our area.

Sunday School & Congregational BBQ

The annual Sunday School and Congregational BBQ will be held as usual in Morar on the second last Saturday before the schools break for the summer (18th June) – although this date could be changed if it does not suit everybody.   We are looking for people to step forward to help with the usual arrangements.

Summer Holiday Club

The summer holiday club this year will run earlier in the Summer than previously.   This is because we will have the help of a team of American interns working with the local Free Church congregations during June and July.   The Sleat Holiday Club is expected to run 11th – 15th July (the second week of the school holidays).   Booking forms will go out through the school in due course, but we felt it best to advertise the change of dates now.

We are looking for the usual set of helpers – for lunches, helping with juice and snacks at the club, and possibly for meals for some extra team members that week (tbc).   If you can help with any aspect of this, please phone Gordon before the end of May.

Sunday School

There will be a meeting of everyone involved with the Sunday School on Thursday 12th May in the Sleat church at 7:30pm.   This meeting will go over what is required of everyone helping with staffing the Sunday School helpers rota, and new helpers are welcome to attend.

In this regard, we remain committed to ensuring that only church members are involved in teaching our young people.   This is because we want to ensure only those who are living in obedience to Jesus instruction are set up as good examples and role models to the kids in church.   That being said, we are happy for non-members to help out with staffing the crèche, or in other practical aspects of helping run the Sunday School.   If you are interested in helping in this, please come along to the meeting on the 12th.
