Sleat and Strath Free Church was formed in 2000 through the merger of two congregations serving the communities in the south of Skye – Sleat, which is more scattered, and Strath, where the population is largely in a concentrated township around Broadford.

Our vision is to be a church that serves God, in the communities of South Skye, through:

  • Worship, glorying in Jesus Christ
  • Instruction, based on God’s Word
  • Fellowship, around the Good News
  • Evangelism, showing God’s love in word and action

We are always revisiting this, trying to be sure what we do matches this.   At our last AGM (2017), we identified 10 areas we wanted to give special consideration to in the coming year, and called this our Back to Basics plan:

  • Worship / Praise
    • We should embrace a culture of praise where EVERYONE sings
    • We should seek to enhance our sung praise with proper tuition
    • We should involve members using appropriate gifts in corporate worship e.g. reading, prayer
  • Instruction / Teaching
    • We should commit to deliberate participation in weekly discipleship-orientated Bible study
    • We should equip elders to be (more) active in teaching roles in the congregation
    • We should equip parents to be active in teaching roles in their own families
  • Fellowship / Shared Identity
    • We should strive for a fellowship that reflects Luke 14:12-14
    • We should be devoted to weekly prayer for and with one another as a fellowship
  • Evangelism / Sharing Faith
    • We should seek to grow as missionary evangelists to the personal circles God has given us
    • We should resume use of invitational evangelistic resources, e.g. Christianity Explored
